There is a great hike in CA (just above the 210 Freeway)... just up the street is a great bar called Necomb's... it's a great date.

so hiking is ok? should hiking be the only activity done on the date? i can't see us going to a restaurant after since we would be all sweaty. Getting food would either have to be done before hiking or not at all. I just don't see anything that can be done after a hiking trip other than saying bye and ending the date.

Hiking? On a first date? ONLY if she's super super athletic and would find that "interesting". Not many would, IMO. They want to look pretty for the date, and stay pretty, not get all hot and sweaty (er, from HIKING) and then you're right, the date would be over, or you'd both be physically tired, etc etc. BAD IDEA, IMO.

Make sure to buy a large popcorn and cut out the bottom.

Unzip pants.

Tell her to check out your buttered snake...

handy on the first date. SWEET.

*warning* this does not work with hot nachos with jalapeņos.

go see knocked up, it's funny, it's cute, it romantic. it'll make you laugh and it'll make you cry. then you can make jokes about how you guys are similar to them, and then try to knock her up.

A lot of diners around well known outdoor places cater to that type of "dirty" after the hike crowd. A beer and a burger after a hike is a low key way to make you look low key and high class (as long as you pay the bill).

I would be hard-pressed to think of a worse idea than a hike for a first date - sweating, wearing likely unflattering clothing, being under the unforgiving glare of broad daylight, it would suck if one or both of you have a hard time with the hike, etc. I've been on a couple of first date hikes and they kinda sucked and were awkward, never again.

I'm also going bowling with another group of friends afterwards anyway, and I'll invite her along if everything is going well.

You scheduled your first date right before plans you already have with your friends?? I don't think it matters if it's dinner or a movie or a hike, I'm pretty sure it kills your 2nd date chances when your parting line is "well, I have to go meet up with my friends now - bye!" If things are going well, I'm not sure inviting her to hang out with your friends sends the best signal either - if she asked you out, she probably wants to spend some time with you alone, not in a group of people she doesn't know.

Tuq,

I've had a couple first date hikes myself. They really go well if you are sure that the girl is into that stuff and you can hold a decent conversation. Perhaps Real Life Tuq isn't as interesting as Online Tuq, hence the awkwardness. Actually, I imagine Real Life Tuq talking about his man crush on Steve Nash all day, which would be both awkward and creepy.

DK,

If the chick has a nice ass and you let her lead, I could see where a hike would be a good idea. Outside of that not so sure.

And of course I'm as interesting IRL, LDO, and certainly wouldn't talk about Steve Nash all day. I would talk about Mike D'Antoni AND Steve Nash.
