OK, I understand now and agree there is potential for disaster. I suppose I've run good with roommates so far in my life... here's to hoping it continues.

My thought is once you're out of school, it's time to grow up and get your own place (apart from live-in girlfriend or wife, obviously).

edit: meaningless post by me.

Good luck. If it works, it can be okay. But while living alone can be scary when you're not used to it yet, the benefits really rock after a while. Running around in your underwear, turning the A/C or heater to the temperature YOU want, when you want, not having to share the fridge or stove or bathroom or storage space with anyone or have them mess up your stuff;, bringing home a girl knowing she won't feel nearly as self-conscious when there's nobody around to watch or overhear the sounds of your monkey business and that she can really let loose and make all the noise she wants within reason -- pretty awesome. It just feels more adult and special. And you can still get all the socializing you want outside, and bring it back home. But when you want to turn it off and just get private, it's there for you anytime. Perfect, for me at least. Worth a big premium in cost.

There is absolutely no reason to live with a roommate after college if you can afford your own place. I honestly can't think of one exception (except gf/wife obv).

I think some guys still want to do it because they're nervous that they can't maintain a social life as easily. That seems an exaggerated fear to me, though. Plus, having too much of your social life directed through one guy, and one guy you can't escape, has plenty of negatives of its own.

this is a ridiculous statement.

i've had the roommate that i was best friends with, had tons in common, and got along great all the way to the roommate i wanted to kill.

having a roommate can be good, and it can be good. i love living alone, but i also enjoyed having roommates. the only one that will know for sure is you.

what's most important to you?

Well, at least we have a diversity of opinion here.

Lol, thanks grandpa. Seriously, if you're thinking about living with someone who still uses a landline you have a lot more to worry about than phone bills.

[/ QUOTE ]
For instance, the cell coverage hole you're moving into.

[/ QUOTE ]

If you're living in place that is sparsely populated enough to still have cell phone coverage holes, then you then cost of living is probably low enough that you don't need a roommate.

But more to the point, no one uses land lines anymore.

[/ QUOTE ]

You aren't even close to accurate on either point.

Agreed. Like I noted, I've never lived in a place without a land line, and I've never been to anyone's house that didn't have a land line either.
