Default Re: Steak- how do you season it?

Back in high school when me and my friend bought the cheaper, tougher, cuts we used to pound it a bit and then marinade in teriyaki or light soy with leftover wine.

With the better cuts now I do olive oil, coarse salt, and fresh ground pepper. I want to start trying a rub seasoning instead. Maybe salt/cumin/peppercorn.

Don't cook steak on a foreman. It is not hot enough and the result will not be juicy.

Get a nice thick porterhouse steak (1 1/2"), pat it down. LIGHTLY baste with olive oil. Season to taste with fresh cracked pepper and coarse salt.

Pre heat a nice heavy cast iron pan to medium high heat. Cook steak on each side for about 7 minutes. Remove from heat but keep covered for about 5 minutes.

Medium rare goodness is waiting for you.

"Cook steak on each side for about 7 minutes"

That seems like too long, but I don't ever cook anything that big.

I'll typically let steak rest under cover for like 10 minutes, which allows me to take them off the direct heat pretty quickly.

Sea salt and white pepper. Forget all those fancy multi-spices and sauces, once you've tried this you'll never go back.

7 minutes a side seems to work out perfect for me but everyone is different of course. As for my seasoning I just go with salt and pepper with olive oil...sometimes some Montreal Steak seasoning as well. Also The Keg steaksauce is decent and about the only sauce I would put on a piece of beef.
