I'm about 3/4 of the way through and completely impressed by this album. Much of the White Stripes everyone knows and loves, but also some new sounds (bagpipes, etc.) that is extremely well produced.

My friends were talking about how each decade has a few huge bands that define it:

60's: Beatles, Stones, Dylan, etc.
70's: Zeppelin, Floyd, etc.
80's: U2, REM, etc.
90's: Nirvana, Pearl Jam, etc.

But no one stands out this decade (maybe this is a different thread). I think it's a little early, or possibly too late, for the White Stripes to become this band, but I think whatever path Jack White takes (White Stripes, Raconteurs, other projects) will result in him being one of the all-time greats.

Green Day for 2000s---all this punk-pop trash is because of them, and thats what is dominating mainstream rock/pop music now.

That song is genius.

I like the album a lot, probably slightly better than their last one imo, but below their first four.

Although they had a lot of great stuff pre 2000 I definately think that Radiohead could fit in as a band of the decade kind of thing for the 2000's. But I will back you by saying his work is the best from this time period as well.

Anyway, I've been looking forward to this and will pick it up soon as I love the White Stripes. I saw the video for the song Icky Thump today. Maybe it will grow on me but I thought the song was terrible. Seemed just incoherent and a mess of a song. It seemed like it was written while he was having some ADD issues. He pumps out some mean guitar riffs then just it seems like he gets bored and then just stops. Then after awhile, he's like "on second thought, that was good I'll try it again." Hell, it was only one listen and maybe there was something there that he was trying to accomplish that I haven't figured out yet but I expect better things from the rest of the album.

They did a short-notice show at Irving Plaza last night, I wonder if anyone in OOT was fortunate enough to score some tickets.
