Yes, pseudo intellectuals that understand the deep meaning of the episode more than we do, enlighten us plz. Why was it so great or are you being different for no other reason that to feel superior in your ability to interpret a deeper meaning? [/ QUOTE ] ah crass misunderstanding ftl. while i can see why people were disappointed, i don't understand it - this is the show the sopranos has always been IMO. there are plenty of very subtle and deep meanings. here's one - why do we care whether tony lives or dies at the very end? do we get the sense from this episode or from this show that tony soprano really improves anyone's life in a meaningful way? does he help anyone? does he love anyone? does anyone really love him? the scene with junior told all. all that is left to this family is forgetfulness and bitterness. there's some hope for meadow, but she's probably marrying within the family too - so she doesn't get out either. anyway there's plenty more psuedo-intellectual interpretations i can give you. why they can't be 'intellectual' is beyond me - the sopranos is most certainly an intellectual show, and david chase is putting all sorts of subtle [censored] all over every show, especially in this season. |

I was dissapointed at first, but after thinking back on it, this has never been a show that has conformed to typical plotlines, it's never gone the direction that the typical story would, so why should it have a satisfying ending? The finale wasn't made to wrap up all the loose ends, it was made to be what "should" happen after everything before it in a real world setting.
It didn't give us as viewers closeure, but it held true to what The Sopranos is. |

I dunno, maybe they're setting us up for a Sopranos movie. The whole episode left you with the feeling of blue balls. [/ QUOTE ] that's what I said. I got the feeling this entire episode was a big in-joke I didn't get. too much of the context is entirely dependent on knowing what a certain TV show is, etc. that said, I like it better than I did 5 minutes ago. |

The quick, boring way Phil died was a joke, even taking into account the symbolism with his crushed head and the kid throwing up.

[/ QUOTE ] i don't understand these people who are convinced that nothing ever happens on the sopranos. probably the same people who think they should skip the marriage scene in the deer hunter and get to the russian roulette already. [/ QUOTE ] My thoughts exactly. I shake my head at people who watch the Sopranos wanting it to be a TV version of Scarface or Goodfellas. |
