I think all this 'arse-kicking' everyone wants to do is completely stupid. Recently in the news here there was a case where an argument broke out at a taxi rank over who was getting in the cab. The guy that pushed in threw ONE PUNCH, older guy falls hits his head on the curb and is dead. It really is that stupid.

Getting pissed and wanting to fight somebody (generally the perp) when you catch your girlfriend in a questionable situation is not at all psycho. It's very natural. The way OP handled things is psycho.

Regular guy sees girlfriend hugging random drunk, regular clocks drunk. Drunk doesn't fight back, regular gets the message, turns attention to gf in a "wft" sort of way. And ends up drunk himself by end of the night.

I'm with Saucy. This attack was not a savage beating, but rather one emotion driven slug. I've never acted rationally in these type of situations, and I assume most people don't. Chalk it up to experience and move on, skip the psych ward.
