Re: If you don\'t usually read the \"Tournament Circuit/WSOP\" forum...
I love the corner markings on the cards (although that's obviously meant for the "Insert highest bidder here" pocket cam), but everything besides that looks like garbage.

[ QUOTE ] You've simply GOT to see the uproar caused by the confusing new card design at the WSOP this year... [/ QUOTE ] At least the numbers are small in the corners so you can still see what you have without risking exposing your hand. At first glance I didn't see the little numbers in the corners. It may take some getting used to but I cant see any problems with the cards. To each his own. [/ QUOTE ] problem isn't the "peek", the problem is reading the board in community card games. I might like using the new card designs for draw games, but for anything else I hate them. |

Taking an extra second to read the board seems trivial. That's a big investment and you should know what you have before you lose your chips. Trying to conceal a tell by trying to read the board correctly should not apply here as it sounds like everyone would be trying to examine the board more closely |

I cant see any problems with the cards. By the way, I'm employed by Harrah's. [/ QUOTE ] FYP. (I wish I was joking, but as many of you already know, he really is employed by Harrah's. I never say anything when he shills for his employer here, and says critical things about the competition, but this time, he's gone too far.) |

I haven't come across an employee at Harrah's who likes the cards yet, why would he stick up for Harrah's when nobody else is? Especially since all evidence points to KEM - USPC as the ones who made the design decision, not Harrah's... he has nothing to shill for. He expressed his opinion, I don't view this as shilling. |

sounds like all that hype about \"improvements\" was BS
This doesn't surprise me one bit.
Last year they managed to show extraordinary stupidity with their card design choices. Apparently they gave those idiots a raise and let them choose this year's design too. Last year the two "different" decks were virtually identical. Both white with black lettering, they looked the same unless you looked real close. One had black FINE print and the other had red fine print. It was hard to even decide which was which. As you might suspect, there were numerous problems because of this incredibly poor design choice. I haven't seen this years backs but if they are ridiculously inappropriate I wouldn't be surprised. This thread, and the hundreds of others like it reflect two things: 1, Harrahs is behind getting the money from the wsop, but they aren't actually behind poker itself, or its players. Further evidence of this is seen when you get a W2G for playing a tournament and winning over $600, while the exact same tournament at a non-harrahs joint, no W2G. 2. The people making and approving poker decisions are not poker people, and don't know the business. |

Heard from two diff people at Venetian last night that the weird cards are being pulled. Not sure if its true. One guy claimed to be a Harrahs employee.

"Harrahs owes me money" is a surprisingly common phrase in this town. Guess someone in payroll figured out you don't get rich by writing checks.

Re: If you don\'t usually read the \"Tournament Circuit/WSOP\" forum...
There are few returning or experienced dealers willing to work the wsop again after the previous disasters, which seem to get worse each year harrahs runs it. Of course given the large percentage of total a-holes in the wsop cash games, particularly the high limit ones, no one should be surprised about the bottom of the barrel staff going to the cash games.
I feel sorry for all the newbie dealers who wind up there, tossed to the wolves by a company that may not even pay them. I have seen a few of these "wsop certified dealers" and they are so pathetically untrained it's scary. So much for the value of this "certification," pure corporate bullcrap. Training for the poker industry in LV is completely non-existent other than a few poker schools. No LV casino trains dealers or floors at all, as far as I know. If there is an exception to this it is probably bellagio and possibly mirage. Some have flirted with the idea but it never materializes, and years later the same dealers still have the same bad habits. To this day I have never met anyone who received training before their first day as a poker floorperson (other than paperwork training). Like myself, like everyone, your training is this: "now you're the floor." Few are ready, I wasn't either but much live playing experience allowed me to fake it pretty good till I got enough experience to where I was actually good at it. :-) |
