The biggest problem America faces right now -- by far -- is the right-wing's systematic suppression of public discourse.

That is the problem created when we allow rightwingers to dominate the media and suppress alternative points of view as you correctly stated. Between Couric, Gibson, and Williams on the Big 3 newscasts, we get nothing but rightwing propaganda every night. Then the major papers just follow. The New York Times, LA Times, Washington Post do nothing but echo the same rightwing talking points. The rightwings domination of the media needs to stop now or the county is f*****.

By Far?

Certainly politicians openly giving kickbacks to corporations, an ever increasing interventionalist policy, and more then half of Americans either not voting or voting for the person "they'd most like to have a beer with" have to rank pretty high up there when it comes to ending the empire.

Unless someone who lived through a worse era can convince me that we'll survive, I think this downward spiral won't be recovered from because:

1. Growing education gap.
2. Growing national debt.
3. Overpoliticization of every concievable issue.
4. No one in power has the balls to do anything.
5. FUD-mongering is at an all time high.
6. Foreign policy is abysmal. Everyone hates us.

Of all of the above problems, 4 is by far the worst. Even if we impeached Bush and Cheney both today, the two party system would leave a bunch of spineless political whores in control of the nation. Withdrawing from Iraq, health care reform, patent reform, education reform; it is imperative we fix these things NOW before we become a third world country and they are all on track to be fixed at best in a 2 year timeframe. By that time I have no reason to believe we won't be just destroyed from the ground up.

I'm moving to europe.

[/ QUOTE ]

Off the top of my head all were way worse IMO:

1. Civil War

2. Deprssion eras (several but the one in the 30's was probably the worst).

3. WWII

4. Racial strife in the 60's.

5. Vietnam Era

6. Oil embargos, Watergate, hyper inflation of the 70's.

7. Cold war, with the over hanging threat of nuclear war that was very real. Came the closest probably during the Cuban missle crises.

the second list is one of events, the first list is problems that threaten to undermine the the foundation of the US (though i dont agree with all of them and there are a couple missing). If the first list (or a modified one) comes to pass, we wont be able to handle repeat performances of the second list.

Do you not see how things in the 1st list are found in the 2nd list, and we got through them fine?

(there are also things in the 2nd list that luckily arent as big problems now)

I'd love to take that bet with you for every dollar you have.

Have now, or have in two decades?

[/ QUOTE ]

Both.

I'd make that bet, but it would be over a longer time table, more like by the end of the 21st Century. I don't think 20 years will be enough time for Europes tiny tiny natural population growth rate to be fully overtaken.
[ QUOTE ]

Do you watch Glenn Beck?.... I've only bothered maybe once or twice.... not enuff info for me to get the reference to him from the other poster.

I've never even heard of Glenn Beck

Let me get to the same level: "hope you enjoy the minimum wage in the US lol"

[/ QUOTE ]
What does minimum wage in the US have to do with long term population growth trends in Europe?

Ready for your conversion to Islam by force? Nobody has any balls over there either, and I predict at least two of those countries will be Islamist states in the next 2 decades. (the frogs are almost definite for conversion, though the latest election may have bought them some more time)

Are you against the religion of Islam or something? What the hell are you trying to say?
