I may be wrong here, but I always thought if a player threw his glove it was 3 bases, but if a catcher used his mask to pick up a ball it was only 1 base.

Edit: Also, is a catcher picking up a ball with his mask considered "detatched equipment"? He is still holding it.
What if a player took his glove off of his hand but was still holding it and was somehow able to catch a fly ball, is the glove considered "Detatched" ?

The mask is considered detached since it's supposed to be on his head.

The glove...that would never happen. As long as it's on one of your hands...or both...there is just not a situation where you would need to make such a ruling. Maybe if a player took his glove off and put it on his shoe? I don't know, it's not going to happen.

could hold glove next to side with your elbow or something.

Or two guys could stand together and squeeze the glove between their heads or their chests.

If they are somehow able to make the catch while doing this then I think they deserve double-outs.
