Just noticed 100 Bullets was not mentioned yet. Nor The Human Target.

300 AD is a good call, and thus brings up all of Frank Miller's Sin City stuff as well.

Watchmen is a no brainer. Also, this is good:

Kingdom Come is another great choice, and also reminds me to say Books of Magic. Note, just get the 4 issues mini series one, the full series TPB's are ok, but nowhere near in quality.

Be careful with some of the recommendations you've gotten so far. If you're looking for somthing in similar style/texture to DKR and Arkham Asylum, Watchmen will work, but it is a very dense read compared to the breezier read that AA and DKR are.

My recommendation for the next book for you would be Batman: The Long Halloween by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale. Another excellent Batman tale.

Sandman is fantastic, but is not set in the superhero trappings that you've read so far.

My out of left field recommendation, if you liked Arkham Asylum, check out Grant Morrison's Doom Patrol. Excellent book that Morrison made his name on before doing AA.

Many of the comics mentioned in the thread so far (particularly Maus and Planetary, two of my all time favorites) are excellent, but may not be the story you're looking for. Let us know what you think of the next book you pick up, it will give me a better idea of what else might be up your alley!

If you like zombies go for The Walking Dead.
