The way the hand in the OP played out, if he was gonna be able to call you at all, I figured he'd be flipping over A9o or 44. Pocket 4s made the most sense there I think.

I still think it's a good move and that he has to fold most of his range that beats you. I think though that calling would have been almost as effective since it'd be unlikely (as other posters pointed out) that he value betting a med. strength hand on the end there.

who pots the river with a made hand that isnt atleast a straight ? You shove looks like re-steal at best, which doesn't make any sense since u had a pair. Overall very spewish

This is what I call an "insurance-bluff" where you could easily have the best hand and should probably call, but just in case you don't, you shove hoping to fold out the possible-though-slightly-improbable better hand. These get expensive after a while, so I stopped doing it. I also fold river and 4-bet pre-flop and/or bet the flop.

This guy seems kinda awkward and bad and I don't like big dubious moves vs. those types

This is a good point. Also dead on, as future play vs him showed.

dude you shoulda inferred this from pf play in this hand alone.

I'd say I did. I didn't want to prejudice the read I had at the time too much though for analysis of this specific hand..

I don't get why you are unwilling to bet the flop with mid pair and a decent kicker, but you like a bluff raise on a scary river for 3/4 of your buy in. This seems unnecessarily high variance. Bet the flop a lot, if not, keep the pot small. That is why you checked the flop for pot control, then you are putting in your whole stack hoping he folds two pair...seems backwards.
