Having to choose between taking a then-Farnsworth fastball in the chest/neck (probably 98-101 mph) or him hitting me the Goldberg spear while I try to fight him off, I gotta be honest, it would be a tough choice.

Nice Jimmy Piersall reference.
That guy was definitely pretty nuts.

A few years ago (he's probably about 80 by now) he was going to a few of the Daytona Cubs games each year and would hangout in the press-box.
I think he had some token-job in their scouting department perhaps or perhaps they were just fine with letting him show up whenever and hang-out in the press-box.

One game he doesn't like the home-plate ump's strike-zone (it's single-A ball...the strike-zone is going to suck) and is yelling non-stop from the press-box how terrible the calls are and that the ump sucks.

Home-plate ump finally has enough, turns around, and ejects Piersall from the game.

Not very common for an 80-year-oldish guy to get ejected from the press-box.

Or just get in a boxing ring and run around, no chance he could catch you.

Doc Ellis

pitched a no-hitter on acid, also started throwing at cincinnati reds for no good reason - i think he hit 3 guys and threw behind one other guy before getting yanked.

[/ QUOTE ]

I caught part of an interview with him on ESPN about 10 years ago and it was the funniest thing I've ever seen. I don't understand why they don't re-run it periodically. The incident with the Reds had some type of racial background--I don't recall the details. Doc had announced in advance that he was going to hit them all. After he hit Rose (I think) and Morgan stepped up, his catcher (Sanguillen?) warned Morgan to watch out. Morgan said, "Aww, he won't hit me--I'm a brother." During the interview, Ellis proudly exclaimed, "I got him with the first pitch!"

Heh, anyone see the Marlins-Phillies last night. I thought Olsen was going to lose it. It was broken up and everyone was going back into the dugouts - he was still yelling.
