Thanks. How is the room there? Is it going to be painful to get my 5 hours in for the poker rate?

[/ QUOTE ]

I don't know if they count your tourney time towards the 5 hours. I've heard the rooms were decent but I've never stayed at ST.

It's been a long time since I ate at Corky's there but it was pretty good last time I ate there.

IMHO as long as a game you want to play is running I wouldn't think it would be any different than any other place.

Corky's closed. They have their BBQ on the buffet.

Ok, I booked at Gold Strike and got a different rate than I was quoted on two occasions above. Actually I was quoted yet another price before I got the final price I booked at. Seems to be ALOT of confusion on room rates and comp requirements by the poker room staff at GS. Right before I booked I was told by the floor in the poker room that the rate was $35.95 and $55.95/weekends. Then when they patched me through to make the reservation it was $30 and $50. Sheesh, who knows what it will be when I get there.lol Anyway, it's a done deal and $30 and $50 is fine.

As for comps I specifically asked every person I talked to just to see what kind of answers I got. Two people said that 2 hours of play got you a comped meal to anywhere in the casino. Then the guy who actually booked my room said 4 hours minimum was required. So who the heck knows. I've got a feeling with all the confusion, a different person working the floor will yield different results.

Either way my wife will be playing $3/6 at GS and while I'll play there some, I'll definitely be spending alot of time at the Horseshoe. I loved that room and the ONLY reason we're staying at the GS is because we can actually stay on site and not have to drive back and forth from the Veranda if we'd booked with the Shoe. Guess it doesn't matter much to the Shoe because they'll be getting most of my action either way.

Also someone mentioned how easy the comps were compared to Vegas....I've never been to Vegas and my wife and I were planning a trip there this summer. However, after going to Tunica and telling how cheap the trip was, we decided to hold off of Vegas for another year. Super cheap rooms and free food....Tunica can make for a very cheap trip. After doing the research we'd figured out there were almost no (nice) cheap rooms in Vegas and getting a comped or even cheap meal was going to near impossible for low limit players like us. Tunica here we come!

Last time I was there (Dec 2005 I think) I got the poker rate and stayed at the Shoe.

Can you get a poker room rate, for a room at the Horseshoe ?

When did the Horseshoe start putting poker players up at the Grand ?

Will hours played at the Grand count ?

Yes, you can get a poker rate at the Shoe. But the way to get it has changed so call b4 you go.

Kind of a weird deal. I've called the Shoe b4 and when they're booked they've asked me if I wanted to stay at the Grand for X price. That price has always been cheaper than what I could get at the Grand. But I've never been able to get the Shoe to get me the poker rate at the Grand.

I'm almost certain that the hours at the Grand don't count towards the Shoe.

Repeating what I said before:

If you think you might be coming back to Tunica mid-week and have ANY affinity at all towards table-games then make sure you use your players-card when you play them.

Also, buying-in for $200 or $300 doesn't hurt even if you are only going to play $5/hand.

PLay some table-games on your players card at Gold Strike and at Horseshoe or Sheraton or Grand.
Hello Comp Offers!!

Next time you come back to Tunica you might get 1 or 2 of your nights (Sun-Thu) for free.

I agree with TxRed about the Grand-Veranda.
Making the drive bacn and forth is a big PITA.
Especially since when you get back to the Veranda you still have a bit of a mini-hike to get to the hotel door (I would drop my GF at the door, then go park the car, then get to make the whole hike myself).

Grand-Veranda sends me offers for free stays there and you can't beat free. But Gold Strike for free where you can walk back and forth between Horseshoe and not have to hike to your car is just so much easier.

However, the Veranda's spa and workout room looked to be superior to Gold Strike. GF very much liked the fitness room at the Veranda much better. But we agreed that the parking stuff was just too annoying compared with staying directly above the casino.

Good post Micro. Good info about the table games, I don't play much in the pits, but if I do decide to gamble a little at the craps table or blackjack I'll be sure to use my card.

Your comments about the Veranda mimic my thoughts exactly. The rooms are clean and nice, the lobby area is gorgeous, the landscaping and scenery is great but it's too far away from anything? You'd think the Grand would have built it within walking distance of their casino for crying out loud. And the parking lot...wow, on the Friday night we were there every parking spot was taken and people were double parking everywhere. The hike to the lobby door is pretty crazy. It's really not all that bad, it just seems poorly designed I guess.

Your comments about staying at the Gold Strike for convenience is exactly why my wife and I booked there for our next trip. Also, if it's midnight and my wife is ready to go to the room, she can. If we stay at Veranda I have to go too because if she takes the car, I'm stranded since there are no cabs or shuttles that run late.

Oh and I didn't find out about the indoor only pool at GS until we'd booked. My wife was very disappointed, but I guess the GS has it's positives and negatives just like the Veranda. It probably won't work but I'm going to see if there is anyway the Shoe (or Sheraton) will let my wife pay to use their pool. Not sure if a tip to the right person would help or not? I know buying a pool pass is common in Vegas, but this is Tunica. I guess it's worth a shot, worst they can say is no, I'm just not sure who to ask.

I wasn't aware that you could buy a pool-pass for some places in LV. Thought you needed to be staying there for some reason. Good info.

I don't know about the pool at Horseshoe.
Does Sheraton even have a pool? Not sure.

My GF is kind of disappointed with the indoor-only pool at GS. But it's not completely terrible.
It's pretty small, but has a nice little theme about it. But not much for laying out in the sun obviously.

The Sheraton rooms are pretty nice overall.
They might cost a bit more. But ever room is a little mini-jacuzzi suite and the GF kind of digs that.
For a 1 or 2 night get-away mid-week it's a pretty good option too.

But I stopped getting free offers for the Sheraton and when I am getting all these free offers for GS and Veranda it feels silly to have to actually pay for a room.

I'll be at Sams this weekend, it's not as bad as people make it out to be. You can always find a 1/2NL game, weekends usually 3, dealers are good, decent clean rooms, easy food comp (you can swipe card at the buffet now, no need to ask anyone for comp). Tried booking at HS but they've been sold out this weekend for a month. Will play some over at the Shoe after I get my 5 in each day at Sams.

I'd really like to play a tournament or two while there. Those won't count towards your comps, will they? I'm sure I'll get my 5 hours in. But, since I've never been there before, I would like to try a couple other places. Sounds like the Shoe is one to catch.

Maybe I'll see you there.

That I don't know because I don't usually play tournaments.

They are not stringent on the hotel thing I don't think. As long as you get close you're fine. Just get a players card and don't forget to have them log your hours when you are done playing. You'll get a white slip of paper with a timestamp when you get seated, when done you need to have them log the time to your players card at the desk. This is the only area they are lacking, other places you swipe in & out.

Shoe is good, GS should be crazy on a holiday. Pretty much everywhere you'll be good to go this weekend.
