In theory you should start at 5/10, this puts you at a starting stack of 300bb, which is pretty big.

I guess I am just against the idea of having to put in 2 or 3 chips for the big blind, in the first level.

??? 2 chips in the BB is standard for the first level. Did you mean multiple chips for the SB?

How's this for blind strucure and 20 minute levels.
5/10
15/30
25/50
50/100
75/150
100/200
150/300
200/400
250/500
300/600
400/800
500/1000
600/1200
Shouldn't need more than that for 10 people.

If I go with T3000 with 5/25/100/500 denom chips. Should I started the blinds at 10/20 or 15/30 or 5/10 even?

[/ QUOTE ]
If you have $5 chips then your first blind level should be 5/10. If you start with t3000 and figure your tourney will last too long, then I think it makes more sense to reduce the starting stack than starting at 10/20 blinds.

I believe you are overthinking this problem. You have lots of red chips so start the blinds at 5/10. A normal starting stack for this blind level is around t1500.

You could still start with t3000 but you should count on having the tourney go a few more blind levels due to twice the number of overall chips.

Well I was planning on coloring up the reds to greens when the blinds get to 50/100

With something like t1500 starting chips (which is t15,000 total chips in play), this will end around level 11 or 12. So that gives you a tourney of between about 2 and 2.5 hours (with some short breaks). Your structure is player-friendly so to increase the time of the tourney, simply increase the blind interval. You could also make this tourney a blind level longer by starting with more than t1500 (e.g. t2500).

Personally, I like a 10/20 level in there (add 20 minutes). You could ditch the 250/500 level (subract 20 minutes). And you can add a 1000/2000 level at the end which will guarantee the tourney will end at that point.

As you can see by all the replies in this thread, there are many ways to skin this cat. The real key to running a good tourney (assuming you have sufficient time) is to give people a good starting stack (i.e. 100BB or more), a blind structure that is not too steep (like doubling each time) and a good blind interval time.

Blinds from skitzo...

25/50
50/100
75/150
100/200
150/300
200/400
250/500
300/600
400/800

T5000
Green (Standard): 8 x T25 = T200 (80 chips)
White (I know not standard): 18 x T100 = T1800 (180 chips)
Red (Close enough to purple): 6 x T500 = T3000 (60 chips)

Black: Chip up to T1000 when needed

This is just off the top of my head, it may work...

This will work!

Or you can order a set of 300 chips w/ different colors to the set that you already have.

I suspect you would need a couple more levels...

T50000 total in play.

500/1000
600/1200
800/1600
1000/2000
1200/2400
1400/2800 m = 15 (should end by here)
1600/3200 m = 10 (if things go long this will be the last level you will need)

16 levels x 20 mins = 320/60 = 5h20m (pretty long)
16 levels x 15 mins = 240/60 = 4 hours (do-able)

Gotta remember these will more than likely end before level 16.
