I would think its an exaggeration too. If he really won that much he wouldnt feel the need to brag about it. Most people that feel the need to brag about how much money they have usually dont have that much of it...

I deposited $100 in August of 2004 and have never deposited again. I didn't have much of a concept of bankroll management, and there were several times in the beginning when my last $5 was in a SNG/MTT and I had to (and did) cash to stay non-busto. I ran well at the right times and eventually built my roll to about $500 and started excersizing bankroll management, after which point going busto could not really happen.

I think the hardest part of building the $50 into $500k would be in the beginning where it is almost impossible to be properly rolled for any game with such a small amount of money.

Never used my own money to play this game. Play money sales > Bankroll. Lots of people for which this is the case.

I had 1$ in August 05, i played 2/4 cents NL and never redeposited.4k short of 100k now.So, it's definitely possible to earn 500k at that time (i am too conservative and don't move up till i am hugely overrolled).Don't know if this particular story of OP's friend's friend is true, but it certianly could be.

Of course its a believable story. Ive never deposited a cent, started with a free money promo on a prima site and as of now have made close to $30k from that original $15.

Heh this is funny because this story sounds like someone i know. He deposited $50 into party poker 3 years ago , placed deep in a tourney for $10k that he satellited into for $8. He has now made close to a million online.
