If you've only experienced Hitchens in spoken form, you're missing out. I would feel comfortable calling him the best political writer currently living, and that's not because I always agree with him. To write like him, I'd consider giving away digits or committing a crime. [/ QUOTE ] I've never read one of his books, but I've read many of his columns and am continually amazed. I couldn't rank him as an author, but I'd agree that as a political columnist he can't be topped. |

[ QUOTE ] Hitchens is awesome. I would vote for him if he ran for president. I pretty much agree with his views on Kissinger, Clinton, Iraq War, etc... [/ QUOTE ] Ditto. Love his take on Kissinger. This guy has balls. He gets book reviews and articles published fairly frequently in The Atlantic magazine, btw. Another great reason to check that mag out. That's probably where I first became a fan of his. [/ QUOTE ] I may do so based just on this post. Thanks. |

Hitchens is aweseme. He once bought me a drink in the lobby at the Penn & Teller show at the Rio. Here's his Slate column on Falwell: http://www.slate.com/id/2166337/ [/ QUOTE ] Nice. What a breath of fresh air stuff like this can be. Way too rare. |

I'm very surprised by how few of you apparently knew who he was and how many of you like him.
The dude is [censored] crazy. |

Boris,
Top of my head, he's one of those bizzare anti-Clinton zealots who abandonded all the reason you folks were in love with when they enter the discussion. Based on what I know, he's one of those peopel so far to the right/left that the line between is blurred. I haven't paid as much attention to him as I did in the past when I cared more about this stuff, but I recall recoiling reading a lot of what he said in the past. Maybe he's shaped up, who knows, wouldn't be the first time he's had a huge change in mindset. |

dids is right on in this thread. he is unstable, mean, and often wrong. he's frequently drunk and volatile and entertaining though.

Yeah, I've seen this guy on a few shows and really like him. Has he been an actor, because he looks familiar. [/ QUOTE ] He looks very much like this guy, if Mr. Spall subsisted on a diet of whiskey and inventive invective. |

He's also completely iconoclastic, which means whatever opinion he's espousing, it's his, and not some party line. Though I think about 80% of what he says is [censored], I'd still rather watch/listen to him than some dronebot of any political stripe. |
