Marion + 3 1st rounders for KG + Minn 1st rounder.

[/ QUOTE ]

does phoenix have a loterry 1st rounder?

because NBA picks in the late first round aren't nearly as valuable as they are in the NFL for example, occasionally someone comes out of the end of the round, but not very often

I can't imagine MN giving up their lottery pick for 3non-lotto picks and a fairly large downgrade at position

They have Atlanta's pick unless Atlanta is one of the first 3 picks. If PHX get's Atlanta's pick, it'll be either the 4th, 5th, or 6th pick.

Minn is in rebuilding mode.

They could draft a good player at #4/#5/#6 and possibly combo the two later rounder picks to move up to the top 15 and draft another solid player..plus add Marion....given u know KG is leaving in a year--seems like a good deal to me

i never try too hard to understand the contract-related stuff, so that aside, if i'm phoenix - and we're talking straight up 1 for one - i never do this deal unless there is some chance that amare's injury has future implications.

How is trading Marcus banks, a guy they overpaid for and never use, leaving them with no bench?

If the trade that is proposed by Simmons went through this is what they'd be left with.

C-Thomas
PF-Garnett
SF-Marion
SG-Bell
PG-Nash

Bench
Diaw
Jones
Minnesota Pick
Other 2 First Round Picks (can trade back up with these + Minnesota)
Barbosa

I don't see how that's much worse + no bench. The Suns biggest issue is how to stop the Spurs. The only teams to really stop the Spurs in their run were headed by a healthy Shaq and last year with Dirk and company taking them to 7. I'm not sure if this will take them over the hump but it's probally an upgrade.

[/ QUOTE ]
I highly doubt Thomas is starting regularly on that team.

Wouldn't the Suns be more likely to trade Shawn Marion than Amare? Isn't it pretty much known that they won't be able to re-sign Marion?

Vastly more likely. Amare is like paying for an Omega and getting a Rolex. Marion is like paying for a Rolex and getting a... Rolex.
