Re: Students Accidentally Catch Cyclist Assault On Tape
I drive around LA all the time. All those damn bikes make driving around here unbearable.

Re: Students Accidentally Catch Cyclist Assault On Tape
Bikes almost always take up enough of a lane to block it from automobile traffic - especially if it's a guy in nifty bike pants who thinks he's Lance Armstrong. I deal with this almost every day going to and from work on Olympic Boulevard in Los Angeles.

Specifically, bikes belong on roads on which I do not commute. It's absurd that a bicycle going 15 mpg belongs on the same road where my speed limit is 40. [/ QUOTE ] Maybe you should petition your city council to build bike lanes along the roads |

[/ QUOTE ] prolly cuz hes had to deal with one too many cars driven by lazy fat asses who sideswipe him. seriously tho, blanket statements about cyclicsts are just as stupid as blanket statements about cars. Both groups have morons who operate them. Cyclists should be dealt with the same way bad drivers are, ticketed. Saying one group or the other shouldnt be on the road just makes you sound idiotic. |

[/ QUOTE ] It's true, but in the scheme of things you are limping along in a sea of cars causing a horrible drive and then once in a while a bike slows you down for a second. Maybe it's also a little frustrating when the bikes are passing you. The Lance Armstrong wannbe that lives next door to me commutes sometimes by bike and sometimes by car and he gets between Manhattan Beach and Century City faster by bike. |

Re: Students Accidentally Catch Cyclist Assault On Tape
Alobar,
You're wrong. There are a ton of things bicycles just can't do that prevent bicycles from joining the normal flow of traffic: go fast enough, go over potholes/sewer grates, and accelerate quickly come to mind. The operator's skill isn't really that pertinent. On many thoroughfares in LA they prevent parking between 7AM-10AM and 4PM-7PM so the right lanes can be used for travel. Then, somebody's allowed to putter down that lane at whatever speed they choose because they're on a bicycle. It doesn't make sense. |

[ QUOTE ] The cop over-reacted, but bikes and cars do not belong on the same roads. [/ QUOTE ] what roads do you suggest bikers use? cars need to learn to share the road. [/ QUOTE ] Roads wouldn't exist if not for cars. The gasoline tax paid by car drivers funds the roads. So you should use the roads in prpoportion to how much gas you buy. How much gas do bicyclists buy? |

i'm so glad that the reporter said "coincidentally" rather than "ironically" when describing how the students were there investigating pros and cons of public surveillance. [/ QUOTE ] Ironically is the most overused word ever by local news reporters, it is sickening, I agree. |
