I don't think I've dropped 500 BB's yet but I'm down Since December 1 - effectively 56k hands break even.

of course there is PLENTY of cheating online. How could there not be? Perhaps you think that human nature has suddenly changed with the advent of online poker !!!! When in history have people not taken advantage of an opportunity to steal ?

While we can stop it, maybe there are ways to identify potential cheaters. One of the software guys could create a tracking program that identifies players who play together an abnormally high pct. of the time).

Once those players are identified, you can look at various parameters of their play which would identify whether there is likely to be a problem. Surprisingly, one of the key data elements might be that they are in LESS pots together. I haven't thought it through, but it should be possible to see patterns through poker tracker statistics.

This is just some ramblings to consider, I haven't thought this through...

What I have found in many dishonest people is that they don't trust anyone else. Many of them have friends but would not trust these friends to be financial partners with them in any way. But they can help each other enourmously without having to trust the other guy to pay up his share, and not have to worry about not getting his cut of a big pot, etc. Just play poker and tell your buddy what your cards were when you fold. That's all it takes. You both have a big edge over the opponents, you don't have to trust each other in money splits, you don't have to expose yourself with any team plays, etc. And in the high stakes games, the same players are always playing at the same tables.

I really think there is a secret society that eats up idiot isolated players who think they can win on their own. Now, perhaps 18 months ago there were enough fish that highly skilled players could still beat the game despite all the cheating. I think that day is long gone. Anybody who has a 4 year winning record probably earned almost all of that in the first 3 years and has given back a good bit, or moved sideways, over the last 12 months. That is, unless the belong to the secret society.

I'm glad you posted this. I now know you are not part of the secret society. I wish everyone would admit the truth.

I was at Bellagio several weeks ago. Johnny Chan was at the next table. I didn't here the comment he was responding to but I did hear his response: "That's why I don't play on line. Can't win. Nobody wins. "

apparently tho chan has never been a winner in live limit cash games though, too. he has made his money from donkaments and business ventures. "gasp"

For those worried about collusion, I recommend playing at heads-up only tables. That's what I did.

The story he tells is different. He was a professional poker player at cash games before he ever became a huge success. First in private games in Texas, then on to Las Vegas, and then to California.

Of course he made most of his money from tournaments and other business ventures. Nobody is going to become very wealthy playing cash games for $100 to $200 per hour. That is just a way for somebody to make a good living if they are willing to put in long hours. But they can parlay that into millions with good investments.
