Who needs to deal when you can just beat everyone else?

you made 14k - [censored] em if they don't like the way you went about it.
Being somewhat risk averse myself, I completely get where you are coming from. |

Re: I made a deal last night that cost me an arm and a leg...
Giving up $900 is not a huge deal if the money is a big deal to you.
I remember when JC Tran was chopping the WCOOP $2500, somebody asked for more and JC said something like "Why are you more deserving than the rest of us? If you don't want the chip chop, then say so, and we'll play." The other guy cracked pretty quick. Granted, a lot more money was on the line, but Tran displayed some good chop talk skills. |

Re: I made a deal last night that cost me an arm and a leg...
You did fine. You gave up $EV for $$.
The most important aspect of poker is bankroll management. A five figure cash is substantial - Congratulations. Everyone's ability to gamble at larger stakes is different, it takes alot of courage to realize and accept your comfort zone. Most deals shouldn't work, because its almost never in the short stacks interest to take a deal. As a rule of thumb, I'm willing to deal if the difference between my payout and the min is more than 10% of my bankroll. Your decision to give up equity should be based on your circumstances, and the most important thing is bankroll preservation. Most of these players are just running good, and I doubt that you will see a top notch player behaving like this. |

[/ QUOTE ] Unfortunately this guy had some leverage on the rest of the table because he was heads up in the Full Tilt 40k as well. I ask him something like do you really see yourself having a huge edge in what amounts to a sit and go. He said yes of course. I remember I was once watching Stars Million where Roothlus was at the final table. They all had a deal setup I think 4 or 5 players and everybody had basically agreed. Roothlus then said I'm the best player here so I want an extra 10k, some people disagreed. Literally like 10 hands later Roothlus lost an allin AK vs 33. I believe it cost him about 40k or so. I'm not trying to prove anything by this story just thought it was interesting. Of course he could have negoitated the extra 10k or won that coinflip and he would have looked like a genius. |
