Lets say since undergrad I have one year experience at an advertising agency and a year of running my own business which netted 6 figures in that year, will this experience coupled with a good GMAT score get me into a top 10 school? Maybe too broad a question but what do you guys think?

If that good GMAT score is a 750 and your undergrad GPA was a 4.0, then yes.

You can get into top-10 schools with GMAT's as low as 650-660.

You don't have a ton of work experience, but I'd guess that you would have a pretty good chance of getting in with a GMAT score of around 700ish, maybe even lower.

DeVry and U of Phoenix grads wouldn't get an interview. I work for a Fortune 500 company fwiw.

a buddy of mine went to Tuck with a 670 or 680. he went to a very good undergrad (not the best) and had good grades (but not 4.0 or anything) and had very good work experience (but most people do). he had exceptional recommendations I think.

said another way - the average GMAT score at HBS is 707. for every 750 there is a 660. it's just that the 660's tend to have exceptional undergrad track records, jobs, and reco's.
