Re: Thoughts on why the Dems feel this is the year to put Hillary, Oba
Yeah Gore is cool with the media...not the majority of america.
Obama is the best shot to win the Pres despite being black. He doesn't even need most of the southern states. And the # of people who won't vote for a strong black man as pres is much much lower(thank you Dennis Haysbert) than the # of men who won't vote for a woman pres. |

fwiw, I think Gore would make a fine president. It's sad though that a fine president these days would constitute someone that can complete a sentence.

[ QUOTE ]
Thoughts on why the Dems feel this is the year to put Hillary, Obama as the 2 big democratic nominees? [/ QUOTE ] So when the democratic party takes another dive and loses to the white male GOP candidate they can say "oops, looks like the country isn't ready to elect a woman or a black man yet." |

A better reason is that they are the two people the media has put forth and told the people to want. [/ QUOTE ] Nonsense. The commercial news media produces an information product for consumption. They produce the product with the broadest market appeal for maximum profit. What you are saying is equivalent to saying that Americans only eat hamburgers because McDonald's tells them to. If Americans would prefer something else, McD's would produce it to maximize profit. If Americans wanted news about other candidates, the new media would provide it to maximize viewship/profits. |

Whoever decides to run, decides to run. What top white males took a pass that had a serious shot? Mark Warner? Wes Clark?
I dont think there is any white male candidate that would leapfrog Obama and Clinton in polls and support, so the ops post is kinda baseless. |

Obama is teh first real black candidate and as such he has recieved a ton of media coverage. this leads to a perpetual cycle of increased coverage as more people know him from the previous coverage. The media has the power to create thier own stories. |

John McCain joked that in 2000 his base was the media. That didn't get him elected.

The media has the power to create thier own stories. [/ QUOTE ] And the population has the power to ignore the stories they don't care about. If they don't care, the news network's ratings go down and they change stories. Don't presume that everybody is being force-fed information because you don't want the information. |

[/ QUOTE ] I disagree, It was impossible to ignore the Anna nicole Smith stories a few weeks back. No matter what station you turned to the coverage was the same. And when did it stop? when alberto got himself in this bind. Yet there were weeks of coverage for what ammounted to little more than celebrity gossip. How many people really cared about anna nicole? How many people would of cared if the media didnt wallpaper the entire nation with her stories? By making her death seem like a huge tragedy it caused people to watch. Meanwhile Boris Yeltsin has died and there is no where near the coverage becasue the media is in the middle of trumping up the VT shootings. The media is far more powerful than you are giving it credit for. |

[ QUOTE ] The media is far more powerful than you are giving it credit for. [/ QUOTE ] You are far more lazy than you acknowleding. There were all kinds of options for news coverage all over the internet to satisfy your cravings for "legitimate" news. Just go find the niche programs that cater to your tastes. Don't complain that the mainstream isn't your stream. |
