Maybe Thursday. Wednesdays are really weird at Riverside. Locals qualify for a "freeroll" by various means. So about 6:30pm, the whole room dries up and everyone heads to the freeroll. Anyone without an entry doesn't bother to show up on Wednesdays. Californians haven't made it there yet for an extended weekend.

Thursdays are much better.

Can you explain how this works? Is there a discounted early buy in price or something? Does it "screw" people who buy in for the full amount? For example, say someone buys in for $50 and someone for $100 and the prize pool is $150, it would seem unfair if the $50 buy in person gets an equal chance to win as the $100 buy in person (i.e. the $50 gets the same number of chips).

Also, regarding cash games, I see that Harrah's has the worst rake, by far. I believe that's where we're staying. Do their games attract worse players to at least partially "compensate" for this higher rake, or should I avoid their poker room like the plague?

If I remember correctly, the Palms gives out Friday night seats during their smaller buy-in tourneys, as an addition to first prize. So the seat is worth $115 in theory, but maybe the winner is not going to be in town on Friday night, or can't play for whatever reason, so he sells the seat at a discount.

I've only played at Harrah's a couple of times, but their poker room was pretty dead, due in part to the horrendous rake, I'm sure. It was a NLHE game with $100 min/$300 max, I think. It wasn't nearly juicy enough not to play at RS.

They also give away seats at 3, 6, 9, and 12 M-Thur and at 2, 4 and 6 on Fri. The "free" seats are fully funded, but most of the live players would rather have $50 than a seat in the Fri night tournament.
