Re: Does the \"wholesome\" poker player exist (anymore)?
I like phil ivey's style, but the golfing handicap fiasco is a little indicator of the ladder.
I was say Negreanu, the professor, Phil Helmuth- constent tearing of other players when he has a bad beat, come on. I'm not in the middle of the poker world so I can only say what i've see on tv/youtube/ and read. Ted Forrest, Doyle, and a lot of the guys on late night poker seem like pretty good guys. |

Re: Does the \"wholesome\" poker player exist (anymore)?
Did the wholesome poker player ever exist? I mean, doesn't the nature of the game lend itself to being unwholesome? Even though Barry G gives tons to charities, is it that wholesome that he loves to sit down with people who he thinks he can easily take their money from?
[ QUOTE ] Phralad may disagree with you on Lissandro... [/ QUOTE ] Lol. Quite true, but P deserved all the hate. If I was in Jeff's shoes I probably put a fist through his mouth. |

Re: Does the \"wholesome\" poker player exist (anymore)?
I am a "wholesome" poker player and I feel tricked whenever people trick me, so that means I have a good sense of morals and decency. And that I am not very good at reading poker faces
edit: Oh I didn't read that it was supposed to be famous people...somedayyyy |

[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] I think there are lots of "nice guy" poker players and they are the biggest hustlers of all. Doyle, Daniel, Ted Forrest all obey the first rule of the hustle, be nice to the fish. These guys are not wholesome by any stretch, they are nice to you because they want you to have a nice time while they take your money. They do not play poker for the intellectual challenge, they play because they have an edge. Offering to flip coins with someone when you have a 55/45 edge will never be wholesome. [/ QUOTE ] So a guy who is playing in a chess tourny cant be nice against his opponents when he has an skillwise edge on him without making him a hussler? [/ QUOTE ] Poker is a money game, there are chess hustlers too, but I don't think that's what you are talking about. If you wanna play poker for fun on family night with the pennies from the change drawer that is wholesome. Ted Forrest making you feel comfortable as he takes your money is not wholesome, it's just good business. Listen to Barry's commentary on the recent L@TB he did or read about Forrest in "Professor, Banker, Suicide King" or just use common sense and figure out these guys aren't playing for fun or to determine who is better, they are doing their jobs, which is why they are called "professional" poker players. |
