I think you're right. I'm an experienced player on both surfaces. Clay tennis is almost a different game than grass tennis. Anybody on the clay side they should win nearly every point. Unless somebody makes silly errors, it should be a bunch of tieb-reakers decided by a random net cord. The challenge to players will be to adjust their timing and technique between surfaces. I'm eager to watch.

Yeah, this sounded great to me at first, but the more I thought about it the more boring I realized it will be. Person on clay should win every game. Blah.

Not sure. It already happened though as I read the result just now in a Spanish newspaper's site.

i watched this game online.

obviously it went to three sets (somehow you could bet this @ 1.8?!). the first two sets were zzz, final set was much much better.

i won't spoil the score but it felt pretty fixed, both guys seemed to be trying hard (in the 3rd set) but occasionally they'd just totally botch a return in ways you never really see in a real game.

I think it would be neat if instead of dividing the court along the net, they divided so that each side would be half grass and half clay.

Also, they wore different shoes for each side. How did this work in tie-breaks. Did they still change shoes everytime they swiched sides?

yes.

i think there was some discrepancy in the tie break...i'm pretty sure nadal played way more points on the clay side than fed. but no-one seemed to care.

your first suggestion would lead to bad injuries, but would look cool.
