Re: Old or New
[ QUOTE ]
obviously the people who sign up for or accepts the invitation of beta testing are somewhat pro-change. [/ QUOTE ] And when normal users got around to suggesting stuff they were met with hostility from the beta testers because "that stuff had already been decided months ago." |

Re: Old or New
The layout of the "new" ubb was really bad, but the big problem was the awful performance.

Re: Old or New
I [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] ed the new 2p2 layout.
now it's gone I miss it already - and I wasn't a beta tester. If ubb threads can't scale well and serve a community this large - throw it away and get shiny new s/w. 2p2 publishing writes the best dam poker books there are - we should also expect to be using the best dam forum software there is and not accepting s/w that is out of date. People who think that "if it's not broken don't fix it" are the kinds of people that will still be driving a model T instead of upgrading to a <insert favourite sports car here> because "the model T still runs OK" (OK I'm exaggerating here to make a point) Times change - 2 years is an eternity in the computer world and 2p2 ought to have quality up to date forum s/w. How many customers might 2p2 have lost already because their websire looks like it was written back in 1993 to be Mosaic compatible when the majority of the people buying the books and writing the posts on these forums are single male college students who know a good website when they see one having grown up with the internet most of their lives. I think that trend is only going to continue and before too long graduates will have never known a time without the internet. All jmo - obviously I am not a market researcher or anything like that. |

YES YES YES
a long time forum reader and I've finally set-up my account just to be able to see the results.
I'm sooooooo glad the result is as is. YES YES YES and PLEASE keep the old design! to the "designers": hey guys, could you imagine some people has weak sight? Could you imagine some people with weak sight even use mobile equipments to read your forums? Yes there are people that don't read this on 1920x1440 resolution and in the name of all these people and readability: please keep the old format! BTW. it sux to be the first post like that, but I really want to keep reading this forum at the closet. (no kidding) And I cannot take my comp there. |

People who think that "if it's not broken don't fix it" are the kinds of people that will still be driving a model T [/ QUOTE ] people who think "up-to-date"=best are people the kinds of people that have been using Windows Vista from the date of release. If it doesn't need 2 Gig of ram and if it doesn't look like Star Trek interface it doesn't mean it's worse. [ QUOTE ] How many customers might 2p2 have lost already because their websire looks like it was written back in 1993 to be Mosaic compatible when the majority of the people [/ QUOTE ] just my guess: none People visiting 2+2 aren't people that buy wreckage because of "that wonderful painting". The IQ here is above the average (no offense). [ QUOTE ] buying the books and writing the posts on these forums are single male college students who know a good website when they see one having grown up with the internet most of their lives. [/ QUOTE ] yes and the people that like colors are children and women (again: no offense 2 anybody - it's a proven fact - women and child sites are color over color with the content being a secondary issue). |

[/ QUOTE ] True - tho i still think there is some middle ground that 2p2 forums should move to that isn't the bleeding edge of unreliability - but doesn't run on mainframes that use punchcards either The only plus points I can see for the forum s/w as is now - is it's quick and reliable and does what it says on the tin. I think it's ugly like it is now and there are some really useful features (like quick quote - and multi person PM messages to name just 2) that were part of the upgrade that I'm missing already having only used them for one day. I think 2p2 is right to upgrade - and I hope that an upgrade that pleases the majority of the posters here is out there and will get moved to soon. tbh I think a lot of the stuff that people were complaining about is just resistance to change and being comfortable with whats here already. (FWIW I still use XP and don't plan on upgrading soon - and I'm also not a student either and haven't been one for a while) |

[ QUOTE ] tbh I think a lot of the stuff that people were complaining about is just resistance to change and being comfortable with whats here already. [/ QUOTE ] I don't think so. There are (and always have been) 2 primary concepts: - readability (usability) - paintability (colors) Some people like colors come people like command line. It's up to the 2+2 admins to satisfy both (or cut one off). BTW. even Microsoft cant afford to cut these people off and adds new command line tools. |
