I think New Coke gets my vote.

But I have to consider the Segway. I remember reading news articles on how we'd be re-designing cities and entire communities would pop up to support this new revolutionary new gadget/transportation mode. News on it was everywhere at the time. Personally, I think the invention was pretty ingenious and Dean Kamen is a genius of our age. But given all the hype, this thing was a huge flop.

Shenmue was awesome - I forgot all about that game. The best thing about the dreamcast was that you could download and burn any game onto CD. I think I had something like 100 games for that system.

Shenmue was a pretty great game. My other favorites were NFL2K (I was unbeatable), as well as Soul Calibur. But all in all, Dreamcast was a huge flop and I really felt like I wasted $300+ on it.

Segway scooter for the win.

"In January 2000, a leak of Dean Kamen's latest endeavor hit the streets as press scrambled to find out what all of the secrecy was about. It was to be the greatest invention of the century from one of the greatest inventors of the century. This could be big!"

BetaMax, FTW

BetaMax wasn't a flop. It was actually a solid product that was perfectly well received by the general market. It did fine for years, unlike New Coke, Crystal Pepsi, etc.

What screwed Beta was that JVC, the company that invented VHS, licensed out the technology to other companies. Thus, many more VHS VCR's eventually hit the stores at lower prices (hence, your price-point comparison with PS3 -- coincidentally, BetaMax was a sony product).

Here's a flop: Divx disks. Yeah...I want to own a movie that I can only watch a couple times.

I loved crystal pepsi. Crystal gravy was better though.

All the products mentioned in this thread COMBINED do not APPROACH the fiasco that was "New Coke".

BTW, I *liked* New Coke, and was sad to see it go.

Speaking of Dreamcast, did anyone else's dreamcast just stop working a couple years ago? My friends and I all had dreamcasts and they all stopped working at about the same time, so we all joked there was some kind of virus that had affected them all and they all got "sick".

The smokeless cigarette.---I think it was a RJR product.

From the show I saw on it...it smelled and tasted so bad...that one of the execs made up a motto..."tastes like [censored] and smells like a fart"

[/ QUOTE ]

It was in the movie "Barbarians at the Gate" abour the RJR / Nabisco Merger , Take over , Split up whatever

Speaking of products that brought mockery and derision to their producers...

N-Gage FTW!
