I think they should ban all forms of limit games just make everything no limit. [/ QUOTE ] Very good point. Also, let's lobby to ban vanilla because chocolate is kickass, and the vanillas are unskilled anyway. Have you seen my helmet? |

No limit players may have more "heart" but it's the limit players who have to sit there are grind it out. You tell me who the weaker minded player is. [/ QUOTE ] No question that limit players have to be stronger minded to grind it out, as you say - but it never ceases to amaze me that any truly good player actually bothers to play limit instead of NL. Why play a game where your skill advantage over your opponents is limited by a pre-specified bet size, and one in which variance (luck) takes on a larger role? It seems to me that all things being equal, the lesser skilled players at the table would have more of a chance to survive in limit hold'em than no limit... so why do good players bother to play it? |

The gratest poker player ever Doyle Brunson even says in his book Limit players are weak minded and dont have any guts. Would you dare call him a liar thats our poker Daddy [/ QUOTE ] A.Just stop posting. or ban? B.In limit holdem betting is an art form, in no limit it is merely a flexxing of muscles. Saying limit poker players are weak minded is ridiculous. We require the brains and skills to protect our hands against weaker hands. I think in all reality the ability to shove your whole stack in and cease action right on the spot is a pussy move. Wheres the skill in comparing penis sizes? 3. I play limit poker because I like to play 6 tables at once. I know there are nl players who do this but this to me seems like it must be -ev. NL is such a phycological game how can anybody be winning the most possible without watching every single bet/check/call/fold from every single opponent? 4. Reading minds hurts my brain, I simply prefer the mathematics. 5. Everyone knows all the fish moved to nl anyway (caused by poker in the media). Hence all the NL players on this forum who claim to be big winners and balla's and yet when they talk you can sense they are not only poor poker players, but also slightly retarded as well. 6.Please stop posting, Ban? |

I agree with all of the things you said. However, it does take some psychological fortitude to make decisions for large amounts of money relative to the blinds, and risk it on a marginal hand or no hand at all. Also, it is not easy to deal with losing a large pot when you got the money in with the best hand and some weak player catches a miracle to erase maybe a week's worth of profits.

I dont understand how i can crush the No Limit games and play so poorly in Limit. When i play no limit holdem i usually triple or quadrouple my buy in in one night but when i play Limit Holedem i usally lose one of my buy ins befor the night is over. What i dont get is that people say that No Limit is for more skilled players then Limit is then why would some have such a hard time in Limit when he can crush the no limiut game. Maybe its the luck factor in Limit with all these donks and tough players in the same hand with me, i dont know [/ QUOTE ] Maybe you are not adjusting your starting hands properly. In Limit you don't get the implied odds to limp with hands like A3s from EP. |

[ QUOTE ] A raise in limit is merely one bet. So it changes the calculus of whether it's worth chasing draws. [/ QUOTE ] This is the best response so far. I would like to hear more about what you have to say, esp. regarding the calculus. [/ QUOTE ] Better yet, read this thread. |

3. I play limit poker because I like to play 6 tables at once. I know there are nl players who do this but this to me seems like it must be -ev. NL is such a phycological game how can anybody be winning the most possible without watching every single bet/check/call/fold from every single opponent? [/ QUOTE ] Actually, I find it much easier to multi-table NL games rather than limit. I know I'll catch some flack from NL-only players that NL decisions are harder. I mean bet sizing! Right? But the fact that there are so many fewer decisions in NL more than makes up for that. Seriously. NL you have to make maybe 3 decisions per hand, while in limit you have to make like 3 decisions per street. OK sure maybe every couple hundred hands I have a tough decision where I have to stop and think in no-limit, but I have to constantly think while playing limit. Not saying anything about skillsets, just saying I find it easier to multi-table NL. |
