You have not given out enough information on your living situation(house, apartment, dorm room, etc....). So further advice can not be given. My first instinct was to get the cops involved...

Ask him where he got it again. When he tells you from his brother, ask him why it has your name and the same serial number as your lost one. As he stammers around for an excuse, ask him what else he took from you. Grabbing his throat and slamming him up against the wall at this stage is a good effect. He'll be completely stunned and weakened and will not fight back. Throw him to the ground and tell him if he gets up he is a dead man. Stand over him and tell him he has 24 hours to get the [censored] out of the room, permanently. Then urinate on him.
This is how I would deal with this situation. He won't rat you out because (1) he'll be too ashamed and (2) he isn't going to want to get in trouble for his stealing the Ipod. You have, in effect, a free play here.

i don't know why everyone is calling op a pussy. I'd be scared to death. I'd feel like there is no way out unless i transferred colleges. I mean, if you confront him he's gonna be really pissed and probably get back at you. If you turn him in, he's probably going to get back at you.
are you in the dorms or offcampus?
