Yes, okay.... but my point was that almost everyone seems to think that this is normal and fine. Perhaps you should have highlighted a few more words. You don't work for News of the World by any chance, do you?

Noah,

The practical advice is pretty fecking obvious - dress nice. It can't go much further than that. And lets face it, OOT is a bit quiet at the moment so why not get an alternative discussion going? Or perhaps we can discuss the possibile effects of OP going in dressed as a crack whore.

Yeah, I agree, but you can't view responses to this thread that don't contain outrage at drug testing as complicit acceptance or support. I think that blanket drug testing is ridiculous, especially once already employed.

"Hey Smith, you're doing a great job, you're always hard at work until, staying late to work that extra shift and you're bring in serious bank for the company....buuuuut I'd still feel more comfortable if you go pee in this cup."

Why should a company care about your drug use unless you are high at work, missing work because high, etc.? If someone is productive and functioning at work, drug tests are incredibly invasive and unnecessary. Someone comes in day after day and underperforming, acting poorly, I can their ass whether its from drugs, alcohol, lack of sleep, etc. Maybe in cases of specific suspicion drug tests can be OK, because by that point its affected your work performance.

I just was making the point that most people here probably feel that blanket drug testing prior to or during work is not necessary and is invasive, and you could argue that their silence on the issue was evidence thats its pretty much accepted that drug tests are BS.
