This doesn't make much sense because you have to give some type of reason before 911 will dispatch an officer. Said officer would have wanted to check out the reported wife beating or madman with a gun that was reported in the call.

[/ QUOTE ]

in my area, and im sure it's the same elsewhere, a 911 hangup call will bring the cops knocking.

[/ QUOTE ]

mine too, from experience, my friend somehow dialed 911 by accident and hung up and an officer came by within a couple minutes

[/ QUOTE ]

Exactly... even a 911 hangup could indicate trouble (perhaps an attacker forced you to hang up, or a medical emergency made you....) the law will err on the side of caution here.

Probably the last interesting story I have to share with OOT, a snapped phone line caused cops to show up at my apartment one night about eight years ago and led to me trying to kick my father out of my place. Point is, a cut line probably leads to them showing up at your place, but I could share the greater story if you like.

Heh, aside from the story I referenced above, the other most interesting "cop shows up at door" story came one time after we had just gotten in from the local bar. It was probably 1:15 and we were all fairly lit. Upstairs and diagonal from us we had a couple that routinely fought with disastrous results, including a recently broken front window.

Well, we're not in my place a minute when a cop knocks. I answer and he says he had a noise complaint, and I'm trying to figure out how that's even possible since we just got there. Naturally, one of the jackasses in our group offers one of the cops a beer and he politely declines.

I wouldn't be surprised if we were all at or over the legal limit, but we all also realized the cops were there for our oft-fighting upstairs neighbors.

Don't tease us like this. Of course we want the story. Otherwise some of us will actually have to get some work done this morning.
