Also - Granny and NicksDad and whoever else.

GF and I are planning on heading down there Monday-Tuesday 20th-21st.
Probably staying at Gold Strike or Sheraton (haven't made reservations yet, they both regularly send me coupons in the mail).

Mini-get-together??

[/ QUOTE ]

I would like to but like I was telling Granny I just got back from a Vegas trip w/o the wife for 6 days of nonstop poker. So I'll have to really kiss some tail to get to head down there.

Something like in Dumb and dumber when he says "so you're saying there's a chance?!"

Perhaps it's also slightly more expensive so it was rated lower just for 'value' reasons.

[/ QUOTE ]

I haven't been there since 2004, but the Terrace is nier and is more expensive. Poker players were always put in the Veranda becasue it was where they wanted to put poker players.

veranda seemed nice enough to me. had no idea terrace was nicer. interesting.

Lady on phone asked me if it was okay with me and said the Veranda has the spa so that's the better one.
She offered to put me in Terrace if I wanted. It was on a Monday and I doubt they were jammed in either.

I'm not really rated there as a poker-player I don't think.
I got coupons from there after playing 3-card poker and blackjack and roulette at the 3 Harrah's properties and had all that rated.

heya bob! long time no see.

Gold Strike and Horseshoe are practically attached so walking between them is easy.

this sealed the deal for me on the switch in reservations. we will not have a car, am flying in. can't see any reason to rent one, especially staying at gold strike.

how are the daily gold strike re-buys @ 11am? any idea? also, does chicago's have a good steak?

mmm, steak

the shuttle between casinos doesn't run during after-hours and it's kind of a pain.

The shuttle or cab from the airport to Tunica will be expensive (assuming you are flying into Memphis).

There is NOTHING else you can get to very easily except those 3 casinos.

Renting a car should still be considered imo.

I think the 11am Gold Strike tourneys have a lighting-fast structure. Can't say for sure...but I think they do.

I've played in the evening Gold Strike tourneys before and like them enough. They seem pretty competent on tourneys imo. And they should be, they run enough of them.

Chicago's is pretty good steak.
We rate the Binion's steak-house just a half-notch better than Chicago's as I think most people do.

Chicago's is nothing to sneeze at though. They're pretty close I guess.
We just like Binion's-Horseshoe steakhouse better and make reservations almost every time we go down there.

The Juice in the tournaments is sick as are the structures, the Horseshoe has the best tournaments, IMHO they're rebuys, but think of them as 140 or 180 tournaments. The tables should be live the next couple of weeks as schools are on Spring break, College kids, tuition money burning a hole...

Car is essential, Take 55 south to I 69 and ride it to the end it will dump you off right in front of the grand driveway. If you get tired of the casinos drive up to memphis and hit one of the restaurants there (Texas de Brazil is a favorite as is Rendezvous)

there's the link.
thanks fizz.

I swear that's what I was typing in before.

Granny - all the tourney info you want should be in that magazine.

Also - Nicksdad mentioned the rebuy at Horseshoe on Wednesdays. Not correct. That's the night they have the bounty tourney, not the rebuy.

I completely agree with fizz that the rebuys and horseshoe tourneys in general are definitely the best.

I've had a couple friends play Sams Town tourneys too but they don't seem to care about the juice...and the entry-fees on those look pretty crappy.
I don't want to play no damn 50+20 or whatever the hell they run.

I also agree with fizz on renting a car.
Granny - if you're staying there for a whole week then I think you're going to want to get out of Tunica at some point, right?

Rendzvous ribs just off Beale Street are pretty famous (not my favorite ribs in Memphis, but whatever, it's really popular).

There aren't cabs that regularly run in Tunica. You have to call to get one and it would be pretty expensive.

And, again, the cost of renting a car isn't going to be much more than whatever you are going to pay just getting to and from the Memphis airport.

Southaven a Miss town is north of Tunica about 20/25 minutes away features Franchise restaurants, and the greatest creation in the south a Waffle House. Everybody should have 1 breakfast at a Waffle House. The Fitz also has a good cheap breakfast (so I'm told by the dealers).
