Re: Introduce me to Alternative/Indie
Here are ten albums from the past ten years that should give you a solid "indie" foundation imo:
Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane Over the Sea The Flaming Lips - The Soft Bulletin Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot The New Pornographers - Mass Romantic The Shins - Chutes Too Narrow Ted Leo and the Pharmacists - Hearts of Oak or The Tyranna of Distance The Decemberists - any of the first three (Castaways and Cutouts, Her Majesty, or Picaresque) The Arcade Fire - Funeral Sufjan Stevens - Illinois (Come on Feel the Illinoise) The Hold Steady - Boys and Girls in America obviously there are many more good ones and important ones as well but i think this is a solid start, a diverse and important group. |

Re: Introduce me to Alternative/Indie
indie = awesome music thats not mainstream ya?
Jack's Mannequin - sounds like pop (not alt.), but they're unknown and the few who do know them, are usually strong followers. Metric - pretty unique music. Really good. |

Yes, def. check out The Shins and The Decemberists. Not sure if it's technically indie, but The Pixies rock too.

Re: Introduce me to Alternative/Indie
I just thought of another guy for you to check out.
Wesley Willis. He's not really indie, and its actually a stretch to even call him music, but he's a lot of fun to listen to. |
