All,

One thing to keep in mind is that teh DOJ has consistently gone after sports wagering instead of poker.

Uh oh?

Seriously, how can you have a sports betting forum and then outlaw NCAAB tournament threads? This is a whole new level of bizarre.

Obviously I am not a lawyer and in no way qualified to comment on the legality or liability issues. I'm not saying the lawyer is wrong, but I'd very much like to hear his explanation of this.

I'm not exactly sure how different this is from a bunch of 2+2'ers arranging to get together on the internet to play poker.

Is this the end of KOTZ?

whoa! This is a very different thing. In sports betting, we discuss tips on how to beat lines that are commonly held in brick and mortar casinos. We don't bet verse each other. There isn't a 2p2 exchange clearing bets.

Right, but you could. Just like you could be betting against each other on the NCAA tournament and 2+2 could be hosting an exchange for this, but they're not.

Am I misunderstanding what's going on or do you not understand why it's odd to have a sports betting forum but specifically prohibit discussion of the NCAA tournament?

El D, Train,

My use of the word "discussion" there was to mean discussing setting one up. I agree that general discussion of MM pools should be allowed.

Is this not what's happening? Serious question, I don't follow that forum.

Evan - you are misunderstanding what's going on.

Discussion of the NCAA tournament is perfectly fine. and discussion of betting on it is fine too

Setting up NCAA betting pools via 2+2 is what is no longer fine.
We're referring to NCAA tourney bracket-pools in which different members give somebody $10 and everyone tries to pick the winners.

As ElD mentioned - obviously it would be bizarre and ridiculous to forbid all discussion of the games themselves or discussion of the betting of those games.

All,

There is an easy way around all of this. And that is to have an official 2+2 pool but not for something of monetary value. For example the easiest thing to bet is post counts, or portions thereof. Of course the n00bs won't get in on much action, but some of us will be playing higher stakes and betting much more. And if the admins want to get in on the pool, then of course they could wager a modship if they lose, or perhaps even the right to name a mod to be de-greened. I nominate Mike Haven to run the pool and keep track of all bets, since he is both 100% honest, and also seems to have a lot of time on his hands.

It's still goofy. This is the equivalent of thinking the DOJ will go after the telephone company if you use your phone to call someone to discuss your brackets.
