DeNiro, Kinnear, and Damon have wide ranges. Check out Kinnear in Auto Focus. He's surprisingly good, and he plays a guy who is largely the opposite of self-aware, contrasting to his usual cheeky-hip, raised-eyebrow goofing background.

Honestly, the guy's made like hundreds of movies. They all can't be the same 3 roles.

Short Range: Adam Sandler in "50 First Dates" or "Spanglish". Two completely diff. movies, same aloofness all the time.

Wide Range: eh...Robin Williams in "Mrs. Doubtfire" or "One Hr. Photo" or "Insomnia". All kinds of movies, he's all over the map w/ it.

But as box office results show, the Short Range guy(s) pwn every1 and who am I to dispute that. Adam Sandler cannot miss w/ this generation.

You are right, I should have put in a stipulation to exclude the beginning of his career: Heat, The Fan, Casino, Ronin, The Untouchables, Once Upon a Time in America, Good Fellas, King Of Commedy, The Score all seemed like the same character to me, although extreamly well done. However I agree that I was wrong to put him in the short range.
