midas - sounds like a great trip for the family.
But you paid an average of $239/night? That sounds WAY steep. |

Two other places to note. Near the MGM grand is M&M world.
Also if they are going to Boulder Dam, stop off at Ethel M's on the way back for a tour of a Chocolate factory. Free samples and tour. Bellagio Fountains at night would be good to take the kids to. |

Two days in Vegas is fine. There's enough to do. Probably around day 4 I think it'd start to get pretty hard to find new stuff to do without heading to the Grand Canyon or Valley of Fire or Red Rock. But it's pretty spread out and you aren't going to be happy trying to stay in your hotel. You'll run out of entertainment quickly in any one spot. But from amongst all the kidly choices, you can stay busy for a while.
For free: -Animatronic shows at Forum Shops. -Mirage volcano -Bellagio fountain -Hotel pool -Lions at MGM, Tigers at Mirage -Siren show at TI (which I'm not sure a 9yo would interpret the same way adults do...it's deinitely got a sexy slant, but probably nothing racier than they see weekly on TV and they may interpret the bondage a bit differently than I do). Not Free: -Coasters at NYNY, Sahara, and 30miles south at Primm. -Rides on top of Stratosphere. -NASCAR stuff at Sahara. -Circus Circus Adventuredome -Arcades at GameWorks, Excalibur, Sahara, CC, others. -Dolphins at Mirage -Sharks at Mandalay -Gondola at Venetian -Top of Eiffel Tower -Cirque shows, magic shows, and G-rated feather shows -Pinball museum -Hoover dam If a pool is important, pick your hotel based on the pool. Everything else you can walk or drive to and pay your way in. Excalibur pool is pretty ho-hum. Circus Circus is just generically unpleasant all around. So I'd pick Mandalay or MGM or whatever other place is recognized for having spiffy pools if the kids will spend more than an hour there. |

All,
Thanks so much for all the info. I have sent my sister a link to this thread which I'm sure will help her decide which hotel to stay at (or if Vegas is even for them). JD |

Another kid-friendly type thing believe it or not could be the minor-league hockey team or even minor-league baseball team (and I think they have arena-football too...and bowling is a good idea also...lots of kids dig that).
When I was a kid I would have loved any of that. Baseball followed by hockey followed by bowling day after day after day would have been my dream vacation as a kid. Hockey season there might be over though. It's just like any other minor-league team except their arena is in one of the casinos (the Orleans I think). Guess this depends on what the little girls tastes' are. But I remember going to a Cincy Cyclones game with my friend, his wife and her 7-year-old sister and she absolutely loved it. I was a weird kid though. Family would take me to Disney World and I was mostly 'meh'. Just wanted my Dad to take me to spring-training baseball games. |

We go twice a year with our two boys but they are more easily amused (at 5 and 4) than older kids would be.
They never get bored of the free shows (sirens at TI (ya the older one was better), volcano, fountains, circus, moving statues at Caesars, tigers at mgm, lions at mirage, animals at Flamingo) and we invariably drop $ at the carnival games at both Circus Circus and the downstairs of Excalibur. Downtown the Freemont light show was a big hit along with the street artist with spray paints (which they also had in front of Harrah's last time we were there at New Years). We've also done the Tournament of Kings (they LOVED it) at Excalibur, Adventure Dome at Circus Circus and the Shark Aquarium at Mandalay Bay. Luxor has IMAX shows and a decent arcade, and there are other IMAX theaters in town (eg Caesar's). The Orleans was great for them with bowling, movie theater, a big arcade, and a Daycare including a big Jungle Gym, computers and other stuff. |
