Re: Andy Beal Surrenders!
In my experience, which is limited, there is no such thing as just "quitting poker", especially when one plays at such a high level...it was probably just the sting from the loss and his initial angry reaction to it.

Re: Andy Beal Surrenders!
it is very shocking that a mathematical genius couldn't beat the "corp" in a game of HUHE when he had run all of his simulations and figured out everything there was too know about this type of poker, MAYBE there is more to poker than just numbers and percentages, and I would bet he will be back and I would parlay that with him taking another loss

Re: Andy Beal Surrenders!
After reading the book last year, I was suspicious that
Andy Beal really does not play as well as the corporation implies. I suspect he is a fairly major fish and they just want to make sure he comes back so they stoke his ego. This latest result makes this idea more likely. Dave |

"being down 30 big bets makes you a fairly major fish?"
No and you have a point that these new results are for a very small sample. He may just play a lot of hands poorly, the corp. knows this, so they butter him up in when interviewed for the book and to the media. I didn't say I could prove it but I suspect it. Usually when someone shows up out of the blue with relatively little experience, they are not world class. Also some of the methods the book describes Andy using ( e.g. marking off stuff with chip piles ) don't sound too promising to me. D. |

Re: Andy Beal Surrenders!
From the book and the reports, Andy's problem was mental, not skill or math. He just didn't know when to cut losses for the day. Same thing happened this trip, where he "won" 3 out of the 5 days, but couldn't end day 3 when he was beaten badly by Forrest.
