Re: Most impressive record broken in last 20 years?
Michael Johnson's 19.32 is an insanely good accomplishment. Let's not forget, Frankie Fredricks ran a 19.68 that day (pictured below), which at the time was the fastest time by anyone in history not named Michael Johnson (in fact, Johnson himself had only set the record at 19.66 at the US championships a few months earlier).
The fastest non-Johnson time today is still 19.63, so a few feet in front of Fredericks. The degree to which he shattered the record is mindboggling, and that number should stay a record for decades to come. |

Hicham El Guerrouj, mile: 3:43.13, 1500 3:26.00.
Webb setting the high school record in the mile at 3:53.43 is impressive as well. |

In an era when track and field record fall constantly, Powell's long jump is yet to be beaten . [/ QUOTE ] The long jump is dead. In the past 10 years, nobody has bested Lewis's 15th best personal jump, 27th overall. When Dwight Philips dominates the event with a personal best that barely cracks the top 50 jumps of all time, no wonder the record has stood so long. |

Re: Most impressive record broken in last 20 years?
Mine's probably least losses in a season when Arsenal went undefeated a couple of years back. It had been done before, but a 22-game season in the 19th century isn't really the same.
If you're just talking individual records, the Johnson 200m is probably what I'd go for. |

I've got a couple that deserve consideration:
Orel Hershiser's 59-inning shutout streak. 1996 Bulls 72 regular season wins. |

[ QUOTE ] From track and field, Mike Conley's world record in the long jump was very impressive, as was Michael Johnson's 19.32 in the 200. [/ QUOTE ] Mike Powell. [/ QUOTE ] Ack, my bad. Conley is the triple jumper, right? |
