[ QUOTE ]
So it's OK for the association to rely on government to give its members funding for automation, tax breaks and training funds as it sees fit, to set up protective tariffs to artificially raise prices, and to do research to make sure its needs are being met. But not to insure a decent wage for the 5,000 full-time or 10,000 part-time workers that contribute to it being a $400,000,000 industry.

[/ QUOTE ]

Well they certainly need protection if they are forced to pay artificially high wages. I am against protectionist policies. I think what a lot of the pro-min wage people miss is anyone that makes $5/hr would switch jobs if anyone out there would pay them $6/hr. If someone lines up at my door to work for $4/hr that means they tried to work for $5/he and nobody was willing to buy their labor at that price. I don't understand how anyone could tell someone looking for work that has been having trouble finding it that he isn't allowed to lower the wage he will accept to a level that someone is willing to pay him.

you're implying that there *really is* a slippery slope from chile farmers to...I don't know...totalitarian socialism? Honestly, what is the fear exactly?

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes, that is exactly the fear. The fact that you have no sympathy at all for all the people who's lives are being trodden on is really shocking.

No, to you it's all statistics. Those people are barely a blip in the GDP so that makes their oppression just fine.

You sir, are exactly what I fear. People who stand by and cheer as the rights, freedoms, and lives of others are trampled.

And yes, there is a slippery slope, for exactly the reasons that were stated already. You don't really care that the chile farmers are having their livelihoods taken away. You won't care when many other *small* rights and freedoms are taken away and after a while, those "small" changes add up to a lot of freedom lost.

You'll notice the AC camp breaks down into two types in this forum. There are the limp noodles who protect their nonsensical dream world by running away from fights, and then there are those who deserve some respect for defending what are usually better-formed versions of similar ideas.

The libertarian and AC camps may split the way you say (not saying they do or don't), but really, nobody here was running away from any kind of sensible debate.
