obv when we switched to silver -> gold, now we switched to platinum. u heard it here first, us currency = backed by platinum.

What does that mean, that it's backed by the 'word of the US government'?

The Prof is right. That $20 bill is worth something only because we all agree collectively to accept it in payment for $20 worth of goods or services.

Let's say some horrible catastrophe happens in the world and gasoline or food becomes extremely scarce. Well your tons of paper money is now good only for making a fire, cause ain't no one gonna accept it anymore for real goods like gasoline or food.
