I used to have a male friend that would sit beside me everywhere. I had to lose him.

I believe under no circumstances that 2 people (married or dating) who visit a restaurant should sit on one side of a booth. My wife believes that this is acceptable. I leave it up to OOT to decide.

[/ QUOTE ]

The under no circumstances kills you here. As you are married I suspect you are a grown man and understand how that phrase should never be used in such a context.

It depends.

Also worth noting that if it's a standard 4-top stand-alone table, we 100% sit "next" to each other (like two lines that form a right angle), never straight across.

[/ QUOTE ]

when it's male-female in this setting, they customarily sit shoulder to shoulder. when it's male-male they customarily sit across from each other.

That depends on where you are. In Europe, it doesn't matter what company you're in -- you sit caddy-corner to each other if there are two people at a four-top table.

we ALWAYS sit on the same side, 'cause otherwise i get lonely. also, david is sometimes a kind of gross eater, so i don't have to watch him eat if he's sitting next to me. now that i think about it, i usually drink somewhere around 4 or 5 sodas per dinner, so i get really cold and he keeps me warm.

if it was a first date, though, i'd be creeped out.

Me and my girlfriend, as I mentioned above, it's 100%.

Me and another person, be it male or female, it's about 65% caddy-corner and 35% across at a stand-alone 4-top.

FWIW, I sat caddy-corner for dinner at Delmonico with Andy Fox, and again several months later with J.A. Sucker.

WTF? "Yes" and "sometimes" are the same answer because of the way the question is worded. Douchebag.

See? And you wouldn't want to disappoint a cute girl like Fluffpop, so it's not so bad.
