No joke. 4-45 lb plates = 180+45lb bar= 225

And for the guy who asked: yes, all bars you would use for bench/ squats, etc are the same weight - 45 lb. Just the short curvy one's you do curls and stuff weigh less.

Common knowledge that 2 45 plates on each side is 225...OP math was wrong, he wasnt lifting 175 prev.

I guess I thought this was clear, that I was actually benching 185. I'm not sure how much difference it makes increasing 40 pounds from 185 to 225 vs 175 to 215. Some physics guys can weigh in.

if you are only doing 3 sets of 5 reps at 185, there is very little chance you can do 225.

You made it *clear* when you stated you were benching 3 sets of 175. [img]/images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img]

Forty pounds is a big difference, especially with no spotter (and panic sets in).

185 to 225 is a pretty big jump. That was an increase over 20%.
