I want to know if my pig of an ex is divorced

OK, I really don't care that much, but out of curiousity I would love to know if an ex gf of mine is divorced. The problem is that every single online public search website has some sort of monetary fee attached to it. I thought things like divorces would be public domain and thus have records available to anyone who wanted them. Isn't there anything online that I can search that will get me this answer without costing me money? Or is it better to just assume she is divorced and wallowing on her sofa in misery stuffing cheetos in her face.
