Everyone please remember that the DOJ does not determine law in the US; the courts do. This will start a legal war, involving the interpretation of the Wire Act, money laundering under US law, the affect of the WTO case on the Wire Act and even international jurisdiction.
I think that in the long run the DOJ will lose this fight, but it will be a very rocky road.

I would also assume that the U.S. and England have a history of getting along and cooperating with each other on such investigative stuff.

Maybe that's going to be put to the test here though.

The game is over, folks.

I tend to agree. It was good while it lasted and I'll miss it.

You can still deposit money orders/cashiers checks and it's very difficult to see how that will ever change. And some of the poker sites will stick around. Ergo, the worst possible scenario is mailing money orders to Ultimate Bet or something like that and I'm still happily playing poker in my home.

Happily but probably not profitably.

Why not profitably?

Certainly will not be AS profitable as the good old days.
But not profitable at all?

And who is going to fight the DOJ? The online sites that don't pay taxes? Or maybe the banks that will suddenly figure out that defending online gambling is the wisest thing they can do?

The lobbying groups (PPA) that are forming to protect players' rights will fight it.

I think the conditions will be difficult enough that they won't make for a viable career choice for all but a very small handful of players.
