Chavez is no Marxist. A bit of a dunce, especially in finance.

Default Re: The South turns Red : Ortega sworn in

Hi
Who makes all these murderous decisions? Is it the President and his men, with little oversight? I seem to recall from high school civics that in matters of foreign policy, our President has almost Czar like powers. But if this is the case, why did Ollie and company have to explain themselves in front of congress during the Iran-Contra scandal?
Curious to know. Thanks

take a book: Killing Hope: U.S. Military and CIA Interventions Since World War II-Updated Through 2003 by William Blum, a former State Department employee. Read some reviews at 'you know where'.

Default Great quote!!

[ QUOTE ]
Your propagandist post, oozing of Manichean thinking and calculated to goad without good reason, lacks the necessary dripping sanctimony that is needed to elevated it to Nobel Prize Status.

[/ QUOTE ]

Great piece of writing. I'll remember it when I read the next few threads you start.

I have also sent in your collected works to the Nobel Prize Committee.

Can't you at least admit that the US pays thugs to enslave south americans?

[/ QUOTE ]
No.....
The thugs are already in South America and they abuse people whether the USA does business in that country or not. American companys may do business with these countries but they are NO way responsbile for any violence that occurs there.

With regard to stopping the spread of communism, the USA has chosen to give aid to people like Pinochet of Chile. This is perfectly fine by me. Better to have a right-wing dictator than a communist dicatator. Pinochet is the reason why Chile has the best economy in South America...

[/ QUOTE ]Who are you kidding? The United States has been financing paramilitary units responsible for the deaths of thousands in Latin America, not to mention the support it has given to successive military juntas who caused the death and "disappearance" of thousands more. Instead of quietly letting the memory of that infamy fade away, the supporters of that thuggery gloat and act all indignant. How shameful.

[/ QUOTE ]That could perhaps pass the threshold from Absurd to Debatable if there was indeed the threat of communist dictatorship anywhere in Latin America outside Cuba. The truth, of course, is that there was no such threat; merely, the "threat" of self-determination in those countries. Those right-wing dictators were not fighting communism; they were fighting democracy.

But, I'm sure, you never met a right winger you did not like.

[ QUOTE ]
Pinochet is the reason why Chile has the best economy in South America.

[/ QUOTE ]Even if that were true, it would be putting people before profits. Before Pinochet, Chile was a country with a long, democratic tradition, a rarity in Latin America. The only "problem" that Chile was facing at the time was the continuous and quite murderous meddling of Uncle Sam in its internal affairs.

Under Pinochet, Chileans went through a period of national disgrace. The many killings, the vicious tortures, the persecution of anyone who dared oppose the dictatorship (from Christian conservatives to socialists), the gagging of everything cultural - all this to bring about "good economic indicators"?? Hah.

Default Re: Great quote!!

Here is more for your collection. This is a general response to, well, just about everyone in this thread. Including myself I suppose.

************************************************** ******

The main thing is to inflict guilt. This is a time-honored formula that every archbishop right down to the clan shaman knows so well. This is what charlatans, mountebanks and pedantic moralists, who invented hell because they love cruelty, engage in to sway the weak minded, the credulous mob, and weepy sap-brained yahoos. In addition, it is a great way to further political and cultural agendas and for intellectuals to garner influence, inflict remorse, and stigmatize those they happen to disagree with.

So let’s do some worship and penitence. First, get a photo of Noam Chomsky and Amy Goodman and place them on the mantle or other high ground. Light some candles and bow before the photos chanting: “I will never again think for myself” – repeat at least three times. Back away and genuflect three times keeping the proper adulatory attitude. Now pray to Lord Chomsky and The Most Holy Virgin Amy.

Dear Lord Chomsky and Holy Virgin Amy;

May the kleptomaniac American Capitalist Dogs and their Servile Jackals be sent to swift justice in a trial before an international tribunal of know it all do-gooders, pedantic moralists, and Marxist Mullahs who will not only deal the proper punishments but also the proper redistribution and restitution of all these dogs have so blatantly pilfered from the millions of innocent, peaceful, morally perfect poor and oppressed peoples of the world. – Amen and Awomen.

After the prayer you may want to repeat the creed of credulity, thusly –

America is evil. All Americans, but the select few like US, are evil capitalists dogs that must be under OUR control. Freedom and liberty is only for US, those that think the proper thoughts, those that act properly, those that know the proper history, and also do the proper deeds in the proper order to ensure a perfect egalitarian government, economy, society, culture, and home life.

At the end of the worship service a moment of silence is proper in remembrance of all those fallen to the evil jackals of oppression, both physical and mental.

Penitence then follows. For any Sins committed against the holy creed previously recited the faithful are required to engage in mild flagellations. Whether self inflicted or administered by the high priest or priestess, is up to the individual. A Committee draws up proper punishments, which are strictly adhered to. Two examples follow:

For Men:

Looking at a women and sexually objectifying her in any way (this includes mental objectifying and improper thinking patterns) – 15 lashes

For Women:

Looking at a man and sexually objectifying him in any way – 1 lash: preferably the eyelash, long and luscious.
