Re: Worst NFL coach in history was...
There are a lot of coaches who can only be coordinators. Norv Turner is a great example.
Norv has been pretty bad in his head coaching spots with the Redskins and Raiders. But has been great as the OC with the 9ers, Cowboys, Dolphins and Chargers. |

mike shula [/ QUOTE ] I assume you mean Dave Shula. Him and Bruce Coslet were both horrible, but working under Mike Brown should exempt you from being the worst ever. |

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Kotite was 4-28 in his 2 years for the Jets. In Parcells 2 years right after Kotite he took the Jets to 9-7 and 12-4. [/ QUOTE ] My favorite was when he went for 2 because his chart got smeared in the rain and he couldn't read it. [/ QUOTE ] I don't even understand how he became an NFL coach. Re: Worst NFL coach in history was...
Kotite may also hold the best start to worst finish ever for a coach. He lead 2 Eagles teams to 10 win seasons and then proceeded to kill every thing he touched.

The people in Detroit after Marty have had the same results and he is a good coordinator. The coaches is Detroit haven't been the problem. [/ QUOTE ] The other Lions coaches never took the wind in overtime. |

The other Lions coaches never took the wind in overtime. [/ QUOTE ] Speaking of historically significant Lions coaches, I'd nominate Darryl Rogers. From Wikipedia: "He went 7-9 in '85, 5-11 in '86, 4-11 in '87, and 2-9 in 1988, for a career record with the Lions of 18-40. One of his more famous quotes during his unsuccessful tenure with the Lions was when he once wondered aloud to reporters after a loss, 'What does a coach have to do around here to get fired?'." I remember reading newspaper articles about his offense - it was so simplistic that opposing defenses would routinely call out the plays before the snap. |

Dave Wannstedt, terrible seasons with the Bears, took a decent Dolphins team over and put them @ the bottom of the league.

I would like to nominate Richie Pettibone and Ray Handley, one year wonders with the Redskins and Giants respectively. Both of these guys coached teams with Super Bowl talent and failed miserably. I don't think anyone has done less with more than these two. |
