Oh, and one more thing: IF I HEAR THAT GODDAMN CHARLIE BROWN CHRSTMAS ALBUM ONE MORE TIME I WILL START A BLOODY RAMPAGE.

[/ QUOTE ]

i tivo'd the peanuts christmas special a week or so ago and my gf just watched it while i was on my laptop. i hadn't encountered it in my adult life, but it seemed like anti-commercialism was the major theme. maybe that will make you hate the music a little less.

[/ QUOTE ]

Never heard it? Where do you live? In Chicago, the Charlie Brown xmas album is played constantly in most stores, malls, radio, and my family's houses all through December.

I'm not saying it's all that bad of an album. As far as xmas albums go, it's one of the better ones. But if you hear it every other day for a month, it gets old fast.

ah [censored] now it's stuck in my head because I'm thinking about it.

doo doo doo DOO doo doo DOOOO doo, doo DOO DOO DOO

It's been 10+ years since I bought anyone an actual gift

[/ QUOTE ]

Holy mother of god I wish I could get away with this. Tell me oh wise one how I get out of buying BS for x'mas?

[/ QUOTE ]
Heh, well, I'm notoriously impatient (e.g. I'd rather drive to Vegas than fly, I can't stand waiting, lines, all the tediousness, etc. - plus in the case of going from Phoenix if you factor in all the travel and waiting you MAY save 1 - 1 1/2 hours by flying, tops, and then have to rent a car when you're there), so I can't stand parking and malls and lines and all that crap.

So I started telling people not to expect anything but made it clear I didn't want anything either. Net/net I may come off like a douche but maybe not - I'm one fewer person they have to cross off their list, and I think they'd prefer drinks or dinner in March to an indistinguishable gift in December. I know I do.

So, in other words, you make extensive use of "escort services".

I think you're dissing me but I'm not sure. Anyway, the answer is "no". Although when in Mexico I try to bang as many hookers as possible as they are quite affordable.

So who else is out there and what is the reason?

[/ QUOTE ]

Let me count the reasons.

1. I grew up in the Soviet Union - atheist - no Christmas whatsoever.
2. Even after the breakup of USSR, since Russian Orthodox church has a different calendar for holidays - I'm used to Christmas in January.
3. I'm (secular) Jewish - it's not cool to celebrate Christmas, even though Jesus is only the most popular Jew ever.
4. I'm asocial and don't like rituals - no Christmas gift-hunting, please.
5. After watching Futurama, I'm afraid of Santabot.

Could someone explain to me the secular meaning of Christmas?

[/ QUOTE ]

I always thought most people could get behind "Peace on Earth, Good Will towards men." even if they weren't religious. or was that a rhetorical question?

I don't care because I'm Jewish. This holiday annoys me. The songs they play on loudspeakers throughout malls and restaurants is truly godawful, nothing was open today, and the entire country gets wrapped up in a disgusting display of frenzied consumerism that lasts a full month and results in nothing but more suicides, higher prices, and cold weather. I'm not being a Scrooge here. It's just that Christmas blows ass.

[/ QUOTE ]

Wow, this almost perfectly describes me and how I feel about Christmas.

I spent today playing poker and drinking, alone. It's been the best Christmas ever.
