How much hell did you have to go through t get this? Was it worth it?

[/ QUOTE ]

Overall, I feel like I've learned a lot, and feel like the skill set I have would allow me to tackle pretty much any problem with a reasonable chance of figuring out a way to solve it.

There were times I wouldn't say it was worth it, but really I think I'll have to wait 4-5 years to really know.

OTB's thesis: "Cells are bad. My uncle lives in a cell. It's ten foot by twelve and he has to read the same boring, old magazine everyday. The end."

[/ QUOTE ]

Beautiful. He gets new magazines every two days though.

So teaching is out of the question? You're hoping for 65k...damn man, im not trying to be an [censored], but wtf? Thats the going rate for a phd in biology? How much does a bio professor make... I would guess more than 65k right, at like a state school.

PhDs make nothing if they go into teaching. The opportunity cost of getting a PhD is huge unless you are absolutely sure it is necessary for your future profession.

Are you going to take the rest of the school year off to find a job and "finish up your thesis" ? That's my favorite part about PhD's...the lame duck period after you actually get it.

Btw, I think you can prolly do better than 65k...I'm in comp. sci grad school and peeps here routinely are getting in the 90-110k range after their PhDs.

I'm thinking about getting a phd in finance solely for the lifestyle. Saying that a college professor makes "nothing" is quite a bit of an exaggeration IMO. I went to an SEC school and I know for a fact that they hire in associate profs in finance for $150k. That's damn good money for working 40 hrs. week in any town/city where an SEC school is.
