Can you tell when you're going from one state to the other? [/ QUOTE ] Sometimes I can tell, like I'll be getting less sleep, etc, sometimes it's very sudden. |

Do you take anything besides Zoloft? Have you tried anything else? If so, how did it affect you?

Re: Ask Ben Young about being in a mental hospital/Being bipolar
Did you ever pass any time by messing w/ the other patients heads? When I was in (same state, different facility, similar admission reasons, different brain meds 'cept for Zoloft, shorter stay) there was this huge paranoid skitzo dude that could have ripped me in half, was often sent to "the quiet room", etc. The most entertaining thing I did while I was in was to see how far I could push him and still diffuse the situation before he blew up. Turned out to be good practice in reading people.
What would it take for you to check back in (how bad/desperate would you have to feel)? I felt it did far more damage to me than help...although I'd take the psych ward over prison (after reading MT2R's awesome thread) or even over a big city jail (after a ~19 hour stay and never even got tossed into gen pop). Ben: in case you're curious for comparison, I was on Zoloft, Zyprexa, Remeron, Lithium, and Welbutrin (450mg...and that was about the only damn one I miss). Dropped all brain meds March of this year. (Disclaimer: not a hijack attempt...interesting thread!) |

As for messing with people, no I didn't do that. |

Re: Ask Ben Young about being in a mental hospital/Being bipolar
How long on average did people have to be in and behave themselves before they got their shoelaces back?
What kinds of other characters were there during your stay? Did they remove all staples and paper clips from anything in the ward? If so, did you find any ways to acquire them? Did you find the shrinks didn't give a squat about your personal condition and were simply there to stay distant/removed and go on the power trip of being the one to clear you to leave? Did you find that "checking yourself in voluntarily" was a complete load of crap and you were in fact locked up unless you played the "professionals" game? |
