If this story has a little bit of truth to it (which I doubbt) then it is light on facts...
-Weathers is part of the Screen Actors Guild and therefore he is gauranteed money if he is in the montage at the begining of the movie.
-Stallone, who is also in SAG, knows this and would not ask Weathers to be in the movie for no charge.
-It is concievable that Weathers wanted more money than they were offering but Sly would have had nothing to do with the negotiation
-Even given the dubious nature of the above assumption that Weathers was holding out and Stallone was negotiating with him. Sly has been in showbiz long enough to have his public comments well scripted by PR agents. There is no way "Apollo Greed" was in that script.

Actually Mr. T and Ivan Drago are in a quick montage before the main event in ROCKY BALBOA. It’s only for a second or two, but I appreciate their agreeing to participate. Apollo Creed is not in ROCKY BALBOA because he wanted many thousands of dollars for a two-second piece of he and Rocky boxing. Unfortunately we couldn’t afford it. Then again, what ever happened to loyalty? Apollo Greed?

This makes more sense than Apollo wanted a "few bucks" (which is automatic) and that Stallone (who would not be making these decissions) refused to pay him.

Either way, I would not be surprised if Sly denies saying this as he should know better and aintitcool.com is not exactly the Associated Press (and hell, I don't even believe a lot of what I read from tha AP)

And really... 'we couldn't afford a few thousand' this is a weak argument for the rocky franchise to make and it is sad that they would try to make apollo look like the bad guy for trying to negotiate the best possible wage
